Roedean Crescent

Some gardens are just built differently.

A front garden that looks out onto the unbounded nature of the Sussex Downs, Roedean Crescent is one such garden. Charged by its owners with turning the front of their often wind-and-rain-battered house into a garden that both protects and welcomes, we designed a garden that flows from the house, its lawn, dining area, and seating, and planting centred around a summer house, before giving way to a wildflower meadow, and merging with the world beyond.

A well-judged mix of the cultivated and the wild has resulted in a garden that is at once beautiful and resilient, a reflection of both the house and its wild surrounds. The garden is alive with the movement of birds.

"Having used Ben and his team to design and create our back garden we knew we were in safe hands when we asked him to design our front garden. It was important for us to feel the connection between the garden and the surrounding Sussex Downs. Ben designed the garden with just the right balance of the deliberate and the spontaneous. It’s a haven for a broad variety of birds that bring daily joy."
